Whether you are looking for a family outing, a physical challenge, or a chance to meet some very nice people, come hike, pedal, or paddle with us.

 

Day Hike - May 30  Placer County Big Trees Grove

The Placer County Big Trees Grove is Forty-one miles from Interstate 80. The drive beyond Foresthill is worth the trip, but seeing the giant redwoods is even better. This is a very easy trail, perfect for kids. The trail is marked so we can follow the interpretive guide brochure. There is a total of 1.8 miles of trail in the park, so no one should get too tired. We will eat lunch before returning.  We will meet at the church at 8:00 am. Bring water and a snack. We will return by 2:00 pm. 

Kayak - June 13  CSUS Aquatics Center

 Have you ever wanted to try kayaking? Here’s your chance. We will meet at the church at 9 am, then head for the CSUS Aquatics Center on Hazel Ave. There we can rent kayaks and explore Lake Natoma. There is a picnic area for lunch. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

Bike Ride - June 20  Pioneer Trail       

 We will ride eastward on the Pioneer Trail, which runs parallel to Highway 20, on the north side. the trail offers wooded singletrack riding with a moderate climb in the eastbound direction. It is marked with small diamond plaques on trees. Ride to White Cloud Campground and return, or continue eastward to Upper Pioneer Trail for a longer ride. Meet at the church at 9 am with bike, helmet, water and snacks.

Backpack - July 9-11  Bucks Lake Wilderness

We will explore some new territory this year. The Bucks Lake Wilderness out of Quincy includes several small lake scattered among stands of pine and red fir. Along the western slope are small meadows and the ridge provides an impressive view of Mt. Lassen. We will leave Friday morning and return Sunday afternoon.

 July 29-Aug. 2 - Pacific Crest Trail, Sonora Pass

 This challenging loop begins at Sonora Pass on Hwy. 108 and includes a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. The first half of the trip is above tree line with unbelievable views, then we drop to lakes and forest as we loop our way back to our starting point.

Kayak - Aug. 29  Sugar Pine Reservoir

Kayak at Sugar Pine Reservoir. Rent, borrow, or bring your own kayak. I guarantee it will be cooler at Sugar Pine than in Auburn! 

Day Hike - Sept. 5  Hidden Falls Regional Park 

Explore Hidden Falls Regional Park, the newest natural jewel in placer County. Just off of Mt. Vernon Road, this 221 acre preserve of rolling oak woodlands is criss-crossed with creeks and populated with local wildlife. Meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. with water and a snack. Suitable for all ages and abilities. 

Backpack - Sept. 19-20  Penner Lake

We will leave the church at 7:30 am Saturday and drive 1 ½  hours to the trailhead. From there we will hike 3.4 miles to Penner Lake. The trail begins at 6670 ft. and ends at 6920 ft. with most of the 280 ft. gain in the last mile. We can hike to a number of other lakes and peaks from camp. Sunday we will hike out by noon and be home by 4:00 pm. This would be a great father-son (or daughter) backpacking trip.  

Bike Ride - Oct. 4  TBA

Bring your bike to church. Be ready to roll after Sunday School. We’ll hit the trail and stop for lunch along the way. Location TBA.
